Virtualised Networking
Network virtualisation is the process of combining hardware and software network resources and network functionality into a single, software-based administrative entity: a virtual network. Network virtualisation involves platform virtualisation, often combined with resource virtualisation. Network virtualisation is categorised as either external virtualisation, combining many networks or parts of multi-path into a virtual unit, or internal virtualisation, providing network-like functionality to software containers on a single network server.
Most organisations have already virtualised compute components in their data centres. In addition, many organisations have also made the decision to virtualise storage, with more than 70% having already adopted or planning to adopt software-defined storage. Not only is IT now able to provide unprecedented levels of security, but it is also able to do so at a speed that keeps pace with the speed of business change.
